Great Britain 7 (Lonely Planet, May 2007)

A chance to wax lyrical about hidden gems in my own backyard, I covered Oxford and the Cotswolds for this guide and had the joy of traipsing around mellow, honey-coloured villages unchanged since medieval times as well as discovering the treasures of the University museums and colleges in Oxford.
England

Morocco 8 (Lonely Planet, February 2007)
Co-author
A guide to the intoxicating country of Morocco, the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East and Europe. I worked on sections covering Morocco’s fantastic Atlantic coast from the walled town of Asilah with its thriving arts scene to the secluded beach and lagoon at Oualidia and the chic riads and cosmopolitan markets of Essaouira.
Greenland & the Arctic 2 (Lonely Planet, June 2005)
Co-ordinating author
Long smitten by the wide open landscapes, incredibly friendly people and extreme
weather of the Arctic, the chance to work on this Greenland guide was a real
privilege. Covering Greenland’s East, an easily accessible but staunchly
traditional region; the incredible ice fjord and groaning icebergs at Ilullisat;
and the terrible beauty of the far north I was lucky enough to cover some
of the most magnificent scenery on earth.
Great Britain 6 (Lonely Planet, May 2005)

A comprehensive guide to Great Britain for which I covered Oxford and the Cotswolds, The Marches and Wessex.
England 3 (Lonely Planet, March 2005)

Fully updated and reformatted I worked on the Oxford and Cotswolds chapters, the Welsh borders and the lush green fields of Wessex for this edition.
Wales 2 (Lonely Planet, May 2004)
Co-author
Completely reformatted and updated I covered the front and end matter for
this guidebook, overhauling chapters on history, culture, environment, activities,
planning and transport for this guide to the mountains, coasts and historic
valleys of Wales.
Germany 4 (Lonely Planet, May 2004)

Driving around the Bavarian Alps, discovering the Romantic Road and exploring the city of Munich for this guide gave me a renewed love of this part of Germany. With buzzing nightlife, incredible scenery, excellent outdoor activities and a great contemporary arts scene it was a joy to work on this guide.
Ireland 6 (Lonely Planet, Central South East, January 2004)

Exploring my own country as a day job makes a wonderful way to earn a living.
Work on this guidebook brought me to the stately homes, canals, stud farms
and fertile valleys of Ireland’s south central region.
Indonesia 7 (Lonely Planet, November 2003)
Co-author
Ramadan, the wet season and post Bali tragedy, research on this guidebook
was tougher than most but travelling around the incredible scenery of Sumatra
was a fascinating way to spend a couple of months. With several bus crashes,
some very odd encounters and the threat of malaria out of the way, the rest
was pure joy.
Out to Eat London (Lonely Planet, September 2001)
Contributing author
With the pick of the capital’s eateries to dine in I managed to sample
practically every cuisine possible for this comprehensive guide to London’s
best restaurants.
Travel Guidebooks
I've been working as a freelance travel writer for the past 10 years and for seven of these I've spent a lot of my time working on travel guides to various places around the globe. From the far reaches of Greenland to the bazaars of Morocco and the hushed Oxbridge colleges, I've met the locals, traipsed around the sights, sampled the restaurants and sought out the best beds in order to bring some bestselling guidebooks bang up to date.
Please scroll down for a full list of titles I've worked on.
